Our premium oregano is far more than just a simple culinary herb. For this exceptional quality, only the very tops of the plant are hand-harvested when their color and aroma are at their peak. After natural drying in the protective shade of the trees, it is carefully milled in traditional hammer mills and immediately packaged to fully preserve its essential oils and unique properties.
The Uniqueness of the "Onites" Variety
Cretan oregano (Origanum onites) differs significantly from conventional mainland varieties. It is even spicier, more intense, and richer in essential oils. In Crete, it is the indispensable ingredient for "dakos" (rusks with tomatoes and mizithra cheese), smoked meats, and, of course, the classic Greek salad. Whether in sauces, on pizza, focaccia, or combined with fine feta cheese – it's the essence of Mediterranean cuisine.
