When Chocolate Creates Opportunities

Meet Joan – a new beginning with Rafiki chocolate

In the heart of Kampala, Joan works at the chocolate factory that produces our Rafiki chocolate. This is her first real job, and she joined the team in December 2022, when we placed our first large orders and the factory needed to hire more hands to handle the work we helped create.

For Joan, the job has meant more than a steady income. It has given her new skills, practical experience, and a sense of pride in being part of a growing local production.

When we choose to buy fully produced chocolate in Uganda, it makes a real difference. Not only for the cocoa farmers, who gain much more from direct trade instead of selling through multiple middlemen, but also for people like Joan, who gain employment, knowledge, and long-term opportunities.

We hope many will join us on this journey — a journey toward a better balance in the world, where the value created stays closer to where it begins.
