The Spirulina Connection

The microalgae brought together mere enthusiastic food developers from around Europe. The centre of the collaboration was Iceland, more precisely, WAXA. A progressive and innovative microalgae plant based on the island, producing Spirulina (microalgae) in their hyper-modern CO2-neutral facilities.

The collaboration wanted to explore the possibilities in the ways the algae’s beneficial parameters could be integrated into modern food development regarding both functionality and taste.

Spirulina is often referred to as the most nutrient-dense food on the planet. The algae are rich in Vitamin B12, Iron, the best source of easily absorbable vegan proteins and contain all the amino acids a human being needs. Thereby supported by solid EFSA-approved health claims.
At Skarø, were currently deeply engaged in developing nutrient-rich products based on Spirulina (and synergy components) beneficial to a broad audience: elderly, vegans, pregnant women, elite athletes, health and fitness practitioners etc.

We recently presented the first concrete microalgae product that leaves the drawing board: a performance enhancer targeting elite athletes. And we have plenty more ideas.
The Spirulina Connection ended on 2 May. All contributors involved have confidence in Spirulina and the future of products of nature.
