The organization JunkFood helps Copenhagen's street people every day by cooking hot and nutritious meals. During 2023, the food wholesaler Dagrofa Foodservice has donated 17 tons of surplus goods, which has contributed to the production of 42,500 good meals.
Every day of the year, the organization JunkFood prepares delicious meals for street people in Copenhagen and the surrounding area, who need healthy and nutritious food. Since autumn 2021, Dagrofa Foodservice has donated surplus goods three times a week from the company's storage terminal in Ishøj to the organisation .
A new estimate from JunkFood shows that Dagrofa Foodservice has delivered 17 tons of food to the organization during 2023.
Jeanette Duus, manager of JunkFood, is grateful for the great support:
- We greatly appreciate the fact that good surplus goods are delivered to us, which our chefs transform into free, nutritious meals for society's most vulnerable. The 17 tons of surplus food from Dagrofa Foodservice corresponds to 42,500 meals during 2023, and it is something that undoubtedly makes a big difference to the people on the street in Copenhagen.
The meals are filled with meat, fish and vegetables, and large amounts of cream and butter are added to contribute as many calories to the street people as possible.
In addition, the food is gentle on sensitive teeth and upset stomachs, which means that the food is easy to chew and without strong spices.
She elaborates:
- A good meal helps to provide normality, reduce violence and conflicts, and it also gives the people on the street a care and well-being that they unfortunately rarely experience. We are not the biggest organisation, but the need for food for the people on the street is great, and therefore we need support and donations from partners such as Dagrofa Foodservice.
A collaboration that makes sense and good food experiences
Dagrofa Foodservice supplies food to professional kitchens such as restaurants, hotels and canteens, and at the food wholesaler there is no doubt that it makes a lot of sense to also help a voluntary initiative like Junkfood by donating surplus food.
Zainab C. Ryttersgaard, CSR project manager at Dagrofa Foodservice says:
- At Dagrofa Foodservice, we are very proud to be partners with JunkFood, who do a very meaningful and likeable job. As a food wholesaler, we know how important a good dining experience is. The good food experience can bind people together and make a positive difference for the individual. We are therefore pleased that, through our donation to Junkfood, we have contributed to the production of 42,500 hot meals.
During 2023, the collaboration between Dagrofa Foodservice and Junkfood also resulted in an extraordinary donation, when Junkfood held a large celebratory dinner in Vesterbro in connection with Copenhagen Cooking for the benefit of the street people. The raw materials for the celebratory dinner were shipped from Dagrofa Foodservice's headquarters in Ishøj, and tickets were bought for several of the company's employees to support the event.
Zainab C. Ryttersgaard, CSR project manager at Dagrofa Foodservice, says in conclusion about the collaboration:
- It is clearly most important to us to make a concrete difference to the people on the street, but the collaboration with JunkFood also helps to reduce the amount of food waste. As part of the Dagrofa Group, it is our clear objective that from 2020 to 2030 we must have reduced our own food waste by 50%. In other words, the partnership with Junkfood is an opportunity to lift several important social agendas at the same time, and we are constantly considering how we can help support JunkFood's work in new ways in different ways.
