Smedens is the company behind organic ketchup from Bornholm. Our intention can be summed up in one sentence: Unique Foods with genuine care.
Our hearts beat for developing foods that are as close to their natural form as possible. We believe our ketchup is for those who don’t have the opportunity to make it themselves or for those who want to find the exact right combination of pure, high-quality organic ingredients. That’s why we have a strong network of farmers and vegetable growers who supply us with the best raw materials, which we then further process—without additives—into our fantastic ketchup varieties.

No fuss — only pure organic ingredients!

We produce several different ketchup varieties. Some with chili, others with curry, and of course our Original ketchup. What they all have in common is that we have carefully considered every aspect of our ketchup. NOTHING is left to chance, and we have worked hard so you can taste the pure tomato flavor and the other ingredients we add. We have also thought about everything you might not taste. For example, we have spent a lot of time figuring out how to develop and produce ketchup without any kind of additives.

How do we keep the ketchup a beautiful red, achieve the right consistency, ensure good shelf life, capture the deep tomato flavor, the wonderful heat from chili, or the authentic curry? It has taken a long time to develop, but in short, it requires patience to work with nature—and that is the only way we want to operate. So when you buy a Smedens product, you know you are buying an organic, locally produced quality product. You could also say you’re paying for everything you DON’T get—e.g., additives and other easy fixes your body neither recognizes nor needs. That is what we are passionate about, and we look forward to bringing even more great foods to the Danish market. We believe consumers want to give themselves and their loved ones pure organic foods without additives.

MINIMIZING FOOD WASTE
We aim to minimize food waste, which is why we produce our products in several package sizes to suit individual needs.

GREEN ENERGY
Where possible we use electricity from solar and wind power, and our goal is to be 100% CO2 neutral.

SUSTAINABILITY
Our focus is on minimizing our energy footprint and thereby improving the environment. We work with biodegradability, recycling, and energy-efficient transport.
